Professor Kazuko Miyamoto of the Center for the Promotion of Internationalization was awarded by the Cambodian government for her work with the Pidan Project Team, a group of Japanese volunteers in Cambodia to preserve the traditional textile called pidan.<\/p>\n

Professor Miyamoto has been conducting various research studies and health measures in Cambodia. Since 2000, she has been engaged in community health activities in Cambodia. In 2006, she discovered the first Opisthorchiasis endemic area in Cambodia, and has been continuously involved in clarifying the actual situation and taking preventive measures in Cambodia since then.<\/p>\n

While conducting her research, she has also been involved in the preservation of Cambodia’s traditional textile, Pidan, since 2003, and have collected and preserved traditional patterns.<\/p>\n

The photos below show the Pidan Project team donating the Pidan they have collected to the National Museum in the presence of the Cambodian Minister of Culture and Fine Arts.<\/p>\n

The National Museum plans to hold an exhibition of the 41 donated Pidans in four stages over the course of a year.<\/p>\n
