The University Guidance was held at Fuji International Language Institute.
On 23rd August, the University Guidance was held at Shinjuku School and Waseda School of Fuji International Language Institute where many excellent foreign students learn Japanese aiming to enter universities or graduate courses in Japan .
Four staff from the university introduced attractive points of the university such as a variety of distinctive research delivered from rich natural environment of Yamanashi prefecture, the high-quality learning environment providing as one of the national universities, and the advantages of learning at local universities.
The guidance for graduate school applicants at Waseda school was much more interactive and meaningful by inquiring their major and instructing the method of searching the university’s researchers who are matched their studies. We also got the opportunity for briefing again in October, and we were able to match several students and researchers.
The Center for International Education and Exchange and Office of International Affairs recruit excellent foreign students by visiting universities and Japanese language schools both in Japan and overseas.
Faculty of Engineering students participated in ”UIP 2018″ in China
Students from Faculty of Engineering participated in “University Immersion Program (UIP) 2018” held at Sichuan University in China.
The UIP provides various activities for hundreds of students from over 30 countries, aiming at cultivating their global perspective. The “Sparks & Sprout”, which is a camp program organized by College of Computer Science at Sichuan University, was held during July 8th to July 16th. 20 students from University of Yamanashi (19 students from Department of Computer Science and Technologies and 1 student from Department of Mechatronics joined the camp program.
The camp program involves various activities such as intensive course lectured by the leading-edge researcher in computer science, tour to a software-developing company, presentation of software development projects, collaborative work by Japanese and Chinese students, and also experiences to learn Chinese culture and history.
It is a part of our mid-term plan to provide the students the opportunities to work with international researchers and students by developing global partnership. Participating in this camp have strengthened the partnership with Sichuan University and provided the students valuable experiences of cultural exchange and international team work.

Fuyoryo and International Residence Hall Joint Fire Drill was held.
On May 17th, 2018, joint fire drill for for students reside in the university dormitories, Fuyoryo and International Residence Hall, was held at the courtyard of Fuyoryo.
30 international students, 78 residents of Fuyoryo and 8 University staff participated and 2 staff from security service conducted the drill. The drill began with evacuation assuming the case of fire, and some of the students experienced fire extinction by using fire extinguishers and a fire pump. This drill is for training the international students to react preperly to the emergence cases in Japan where natural disasters occur frequently.
International Exchange Camp for Freshman International Students
May 12th Sat. To 13th Sun., 2018, International exchange camp for freshman international undergraduate students and student support volunteers was held at an accommodation by Lake Yamanaka. 10 freshman international students and 17 support volunteers participated in the camp.
Participants visited the world heritage site, Oshino Hakkai, and were divided into internationally mixed teams to work on the assignment that required them to take pictures, which shows good cross-culture examples between Japan and the home country of the international students. Students of all teams walked around to find the good examples, eagerly exchanging their opinions , while enjoying the magnificent view of Mt. Fuji and beautiful Oshino Hakkai at the same time.
The photo competition was held at that night. Each teams introduced their partners with good humor and made a presentation about the best picture of the team. Pictures which most likely to get a lot of “like the most” on Instagrams and shows the best piece of cross culture were voted as best works.
From the questionairy survey after the camp, we could see that many of the students felt the invisible walls between each other disappeared, became more eager to spend time together, and to have more interest in different cultures. The camp was very successful to have participated students get to know each other better.
Cultural Exchange Event “World Culture Cafe” @ G-Philos
On May 10, Thu., at G-philos, cultural exchange event “World Culture Cafe” organized by the CIEE, was held.
This event was held aiming for understanding of different cultures and deepening friendship between international students and participants.
Students from China, Germany, Vietnum and Malaysia introduced their culture and customs to participants with their hand-made dishes. Participants enjoyed the dishes with talking each other about their own cultures.
