Crime Prevention Lecture for International Students
On Tuesday 20 June 2023, a crime prevention lecture for international students was held at the Kofu Campus, organized by the Centre for the Promotion of Internationalization and the International Office. About 40 international students attended the lecture.
This event is held every year with the cooperation of the Kofu Police Station to ensure that international students can lead a safe student life without being involved in any incidents, accidents, or crimes. Due to the impact of the spread of the new coronavirus infection, the lecture was held face-to-face for the first time in three years.
Three members of the police station were invited to give a lecture, with English translations, on what to do in the event of a traffic accident or trouble. They reminded international students that even in Japan, which has the image of a safe country, they need to be very careful not to get involved in crime.
International exchange class with the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia!
On Tuesday, May 16,2023, University of Yamanashi held a long distance, international exchange class with the University of Ljubljana, with which we have an exchange agreement.
The class was based on the theme “World Issues through the Lens of SDGs” from the general education course “Introduction to Global Health,” taught by Professor Kazuko Miyamoto of the Center for Promotion of Internationalization. A total of 16 students participated, including students from our university who were taking the same course and students from the Japanese Language Research Department of the University of Ljubljana.
In the class, each student chose a country that they think is a good place to live in the world from the perspective of the SDGs and presented reasons for the selection. They also exchanged opinions on the attractions and livability factors of each other’s countries, providing a meaningful opportunity for both groups of students to rediscover the goodness of their own countries and learn about other countries.
Professor Miyamoto who was in charge of the class, commented the following: “Through this class, I hope that students from both sides will be inspired to think about various global issues such as gender equality, health disparities, and environmental problems. I would like to continue the exchange classes with the University of Ljubljana in the future.”

International Students Participated in Shingen-ko Festival
On Saturday, October 29, 2022, Shingen-ko Festival was held, and international students took part in the Koshu Battalion Deployment as Mrs. Sanjo’s team.
International students who participated in the festival had a precious experience, dressed in traditional costumes that imitated Mrs. Sanjo’s team and paraded through the streets of Kofu, which were visited by a large number of people.
The international students commented that it was an honor to join such a grand and lively event, and that they were amazed at the beauty of the traditional Japanese costumes.
For international students, it was a valuable experience to take part in a local event.
International Students Participated in Kofu City’s “Kofu Love Festival”!
International students participated in a booth themed on Hoto, a local specialty of Yamanashi.
The booth was a great success, and the international students served Hoto arranged in the style of a street stall in Malaysia, the home country of the participating international students.
It was a great success. It was a great pleasure for the students to see the local people eating the Hoto that they had invented. It was also the first time for them to cook a large quantity of food at one time, so it was a great learning experience for them.
Students enjoyed the event with the local community.
Student Exchange program (outgoing) resumed!
Student exchange program with our partner universities, which was suspended after 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, resumed in this September. Four students, two to Oxford Brooks University in United Kingdom and two to Technology University, Dresden in Germany, started to study abroad.
One month has passed since the start of the study abroad program, and we have received monthly report from students saying, “getting used to live in UK/Germany”, “making friends with local students and students from other countries, and helping each other” and “There are still times when I cannot hear or say what I want to say in class or during conversations, but I try to communicate actively as much as possible and write down new words and phrases in my notebook when I see them, so that I can try and use them myself”.
Even though they are busy with classes starting as soon as they arrive, they seem to be having a fulfilling study abroad experience, enjoying local life, walking around the city, and interacting with other students.
